Sally Dodds
Sally Dodds is MDLAW’s practice manager and employed barrister. Sally specialises in complex relationship property, estate, trust and care of children matters. Sally is also a co-regional representative for the Family Law Section in Northland.
Sally has a LLB(Hons)/BA conjoint degree from the University of Auckland. Sally was awarded the Law Dean’s Academic Excellence Award in recognition of graduating in the top 10 per cent of her cohort.

Prior to joining MDLAW, Sally was a solicitor at a boutique litigation firm in Auckland that specialises in complex relationship property, trust and estate litigation. Sally was involved in several complex cases before the Family Court, High Court and the Court of Appeal.
While at law school, Sally’s honours dissertation considered how the Property (Relationships) Act 1976 could apply to polyamorous relationships. Sally’s dissertation was recently considered by the Supreme Court in Mead v Paul [2023] NZSC 70.
Sally is an experienced advocate and has appeared in the District Court, Family Court and High Court. She has represented clients in mediations, judicial settlement conferences and negotiations. Sally has a particular interest in securing fair and reasonable settlements for MDLAW’s clients with a focus on avoiding litigation where possible.
Sally is a member of the Family Law Section and Criminal Bar Association.
